Interview with the Fabulous and Hilarious Prisim

Many of you may have noticed the ongoing string of conversations/spam on my message board between me and @Prisim, and now you can hear what she has to stay about herself. The bold is all me :)

Not only is she an amazing cover maker & writer, but she's a fun person to talk to:

What is your name, or what do you go by on Wattpad?

Her royal bunnyness, the great and powerful Prisim. Or Dumb Ass. One of the two.

You are the author of many books on Wattpad (7, I counted), which ones are you the most proud of?

I would say Freelander. It's the only one I think has honest potential to have something happen with it. Her success will determine the fate of her younger brothers in Ewah and Raythe.

What made you decide to start writing a book? 

I was bored. Nah. I used to write a lot when I was a wee youngin' but in college I didn't have time and ADD would always kick my butt and I'd never finish a story. Then along comes my loveable Piece of Shitzu, Brother's Blood, and I picked up writing again. Still have ADD moments where I don't finish what I start or can't focus.

How did you come up with the idea for 'Freelander?'

Can I be lazy and just have you link to my blog about it LOL

Many people are always asking, "How do you get featured on Wattpad?", so tell us how you get featured. 

One of my fans on this site, when she went by Rukaholmes, read Freelander and loved it. But she hated I only had like 8K reads at the time. So she reccommended it to Freelander. They read the first two chapters, liked it, and asked if I wanted in. I said no at first and demanded a bigger dressing room... who am I kidding. I couldn't stop squealing as I typed "yes" in the email to Maria.

Not only are you the writer of several (very awesome) books on Wattpad, but you are the talent behind many covers on the site, why did you decide to make covers?

Because I went to school for Computer Arts. I have a BA in it and a certificate in Graphic Desgin. Graphics are my first passion. Writing, whatever I do with it is "meh" but graphics... I can nerd out for hours on them. Now I want to seriously consider getting a job doing book covers professional so I need practice to determine if I'm even good at them.

Is being a cover maker something you would like to pursue?

I'll take anything that has room for growth in the field. But I think I'm better at doing things that manipulate a photo as opposed to the ad designs I do now. So yeah, I'd love to get a job as a cover artist. Some of it will be manipulations, others will be slap text on an image the company shot (or bought). I can do both. I'm awesomesauce.

What programs do you use to make the covers? 

Officially I should use photoshop/in design hybrids. Photoshop because it's an image program and InDesign because it's a page layout program. But for wattpad I'm all photoshop.

People might be surprised to know that you don't actually just sit at home on Wattpad entertaining people all day and spinning out amazing stories, but you work not just one, but two jobs. So how do you balance writing&editing with the working life?

Easy... I have no social life. I'm not kidding or being negative with that either. It's fact. I get my nights out here and there but most of the time I'm home all weekend outside of errands. I'm in the rut of "must focus on bills" in life and while i"m closer to getting out of it, not quite there. As a result I stay home to save money. During the week it's impossible to write. By the time I'm done with the second job I'm tired and need food/shower/whatever so I'll usually just relax. I put all my writing time on weekends.

Does any particular part of your life influence your writing? 

Not really. I generally try to write what I know so many of my characters are loosely based off my friends. I have wood nymphs who are basically vegitarian/vegan types because my bestest girly friend is vegan. Most of my characters are sarcastic because I'm the sarcasm queen. Things like that.

What is your dream job?

To have a real graphic design job. Where i work now has basic design but it's mostly a glorified secretary.

If you had to choose between meeting Jensen Ackles and David Tennant, which would you choose and why? (Mwahahaha how can you answer this without pissing off a fandom?)

Well, since I'm more of a Sam girl from Supernatural I'd pick David Tennant from that list :-p

I thought you were a Dean girl. Color me shocked :P 

What is your favorite book on Wattpad?

Oh god... um... uh... I haven't finished enough of them but out of the ones I have finished I'll say The Accidental Siren by JakeVanDerArk (don't quote me on the spelling of his name. I bet I butchered it) It's a lovely coming of age paranormal story. While I was reading it I got a serious nostalgia feeling thinking about Stephen Kings The Body (AKA Stand By Me the movie)

Favorite book off of Wattpad?

Can't say I have a favorite one, honestly. In high school all I ever read was Stephen King and RL Stein's Fear Street. I'm branching out more to other authors so of the most recent books I'll go with Harry Potter. I'm currently reading the Wheel of Time series and loving it, though it's a very heavy fantasy read compared to what I normally read.

Yeah, plaque.

Of the many characters you've created, which one(s) is your favorite? Why?

Terrick. I freaking LOVE my wood nymph. I'm fixing my mythology a bit to have a better explanation for why I can have a male wood nymph so I hopefully don't sound like I did it just because I wanted a male wood nymph haha I love him because he's wise yet incredibly naive at the same time. He's from a dimension of magic that doesn't use contractions, or slang, so writing him is a challenege. And of course he has no idea what TV or phones are so it's fun to introduce him to the tech of our world.

You're probably the funniest person on Wattpad, and it shows in your writing. How do you keep your humor in each story you write?

Um... uh... I don't really know. I don't take a lot of things too seriously. For better or for worse I'm always just me.

What's your favorite movie? 

Hmm... good question. Depends on the genre so I'm going to list by genre (at least what I can thing of) Chick Flick: He's Just Not That Into You Comedy: Ferris Bueler's Day Off or Spaceballs Action: Lethal Weapon or Diehard SciFi: Stargate Drama: Marley and Me gets me every damn time! Or Step Mom, both because they register with my real life

What made you decide to look into publishing Freelander? 

I'm an idiot. That's what. Nah, I wrote a full length novel that people actually read so I figure why the hell not try? I have no expectations of it honestly going anywhere but it doesn't hurt to try.

How do you write? Meaning, do you write everything in order? Or do you go all over the place? 

When I actually write, I go in order. However, sometimes my mind will see certain scenes out of order. I'll notate those in a notebook to remember when I get to that portion of the book.

What do you think is your strength in writing? 

Haha bad question to ask of somoene with no self esteem :-p I don't think I have any strength. (LIES)

What do you think is your weakness? 

Words. No seriously, words are my weakness. I can see clearly what I want the chapter to have and where it goes but I can't find the damn words! And when I do, they're usually simple words and always the same haha

You also have a mild form of dyslexia, how do you deal with this when writing? Any advice to people in the same position?

Just take your time and listen to people that have tips to help with it. It's not cureable but it's very manageable if you work hard enough. Everyone is also different. There's no real straight across the board "dyslexics have this or that" Using my finger helps my reading (except for reading a word that isn't there. Haven't solved that one) and reading outloud can sometimes catch a good chunk of my spelling/word swaps. Try various methods because what works for one may not work for another.

For people who see your covers and would like to request one, how should they go about that? And how many virgins do they have to pay you with? 

A thousand vrigins and some hot cabana boys to do my bidding. Seriously though, I have a book on my profile that has various short stories in it but I also have my request form. I'm VERY slow so if it needs to be done right away they should go to the multimedia club. I make the covers when I want to make them and when I have time. Demanding one will only get me to say piss off.

What makes you happy?

I'll let you know when I'm happy :-p

Can I shove my foot up your rump?

Do you get writer's block? If so, how do you fight it? 

Oh god do I ever. I get ADD too. And I fight it usually by walking away for however long I have to walk away from a book to get focus again.

Are you a planner or a seat-of-pants writer? 

I'll give myself a rough outline of what I want to have happen in a story but mostly I'm a write what comes to mind and clean it up in the next draft.

Do I look fat in my virtual interviewer suit? Be honest.
