So as ya'll know (or should) I'm in Speech.
One of my biggest pet peeves is how people react to losing or bad rankings. Of course you're going to be exasperated and upset and that's understandable, but I just hate that they focus solely on winning.
Because to me, winning isn't the point. It's about improving. And I know from our first competition to now, I've improved and I will continue to improve and that's the biggie.
Of course I love breaking to finals and I love doing well.
But it isn't what I'm completely focused on.
I want to get critiques and learn from them and improve because
winning is in not the point.
In ten years, it's not gonna matter that I got second place in one competition and didn't break at all in another one, because what's really gonna matter is that I've learned how to command a room, how to conquer nerves, how to become a better speaker.
That's the point.
The point of doing something isn't because you're good at it or because you want to win. No, the point is so that you can do something you love or enjoy and become better because of it.
So when you do something competitive like go to a speech competition or a basketball game or whatever, remember that it doesn't matter if you went straight 5's or got first place at the tournament, it doesn't matter if you made the winning shot, assisted in the winning shot, or lost the ball to the other team,
it matters that you know how to make your first place speech better. It matters that you learned how to fix things so that you get less fives next time. It matters that you work harder because you want to feel the thrill of scoring that shot again, or feel the exhilaration in seeing your teammate make the winning shot. it matters that you learn how to pass the ball or get away from the other team.
Winning. Is. Not. The. Point.
